Climbing in Ax-les-Thermes: Natural Sites

The Ax-les-Thermes valley concentrates around 200 climbing routes spread across four natural sites, from beginner to confirmed climber, with grades ranging from 3c to 8a.

The official site listed by the Ariège Pyrénées tourist office: 23 routes over 25 pitches, grades 4a to 6c, on a north-west-facing granite cliff at 800m altitude. An easy-route site, ideal for beginners, roughly a 10-minute approach walk from the Ax-les-Thermes roundabout towards Chioula.

The most accessible site near Ax: a very short approach, comfortable footing at the base of the routes, easy grades — perfect for introducing climbing to a family.

Requires driving up to the ski station, with generally higher grades than the other sites.

Also aimed at a more confirmed level, for climbers looking for more technical routes.
